About Iyengar yoga

Iyengar yoga is a posture-based class with an emphasis on alignment and correct actions within the postures. The Iyengar technique is to hold and sustain the postures whilst adjusting your body to the correct position. Some faster sequences will also be given, the teacher will respond and adapt to the students as Lisa's classes are small, with a maximum number of students in the small purpose built studio.
Characterised by great attention to detail and precise focus on body alignment, Iyengar pioneered the use of props such as blankets, belts, and blocks to aid beginners and those with stiffness to experience the postures more easily and fully than might otherwise be possible without years of practise. The Iyengar technique also helps more experienced students to further understand the postures.
Standing postures build strength and bring increased vitality, better circulation, co-ordination and balance providing a foundation for more advances poses.
In an Iyengar yoga class, precise instruction is given, errors are corrected.
